My Story
My name is Michael Cabrera. I am a life and wellness coach, trained and certified through the International Association of Wellness Practitioners (IAWP). I’m also a veteran having served as a U.S. Navy Corpsman. One year of my enlistment was spent in Afghanistan as a Field Medical Service Technician from 2008 to 2009. I am an author. I wrote and published the novel The Wheel and the Day in 2018. I keep a blog of short stories and poetry. I’m an initiate in the Feri tradition of witchcraft and have interests in paganism and metaphysical practices.
My passion in life is in spirituality and helping others find their own sense of purpose. As I mentioned, I was a Navy Corpsman who deployed with the Army to Afghanistan. While I won’t get into the grungy details of my deployment, I will say that I ran across many fellow service members who were struggling with questions of purpose and meaning that I didn’t have the answers for in my med kit. I wasn’t sure that I had any answers to those questions for myself at the time either.
As I sit here writing this, I can’t think of a mere solitary moment that influenced me into self-discovery, improvement, and spirituality. I, as I imagine you are, am much more complex. My journey wasn’t linear. It was, and still is, a series of ups and downs, and sideways spins and spirals into depths of myself to chisel away at the rocky stubbornness that wants things to stay the same, to get to the more malleable part of me that wants to evolve.
My moments in church growing up praying desperately for salvation, my midnight cigarette breaks in Afghanistan staring out into the night and making peace with my place in the expanding universe, my eye-opening camping trip that was torn apart by a storm that pulled debris from the ground and swirled it all into twisted shadows in the sky — my failures, my successes, and my lessons in both, they all became more vibrant to me as I allowed them to be with one adjustment in my mentality. An adjustment I don’t mind sharing with you here: I allowed myself to be the man I truly wanted to be. I listened to myself. I held personal space to be curious and creative. Through coaching, I observed my habits. With objective guidance, I defined my own purpose and spirituality.
I feel I can help you do the same.
